AUSTIN, Texas — Texas lawmakers have approved a total ban on THC products, with the House voting this week to align with the Senate’s earlier position on the issue.
The revised version of Senate Bill 3 now returns to the Senate for final approval before heading to the governor’s desk.
The legislation, originally introduced to regulate and tax products containing THC, was amended on the House floor by Representative Tom Oliverson, a Republican from Cypress.
Oliverson’s amendment reverts the bill to its original form, which includes a statewide prohibition on the sale, possession, and distribution of all THC products.
The Senate had initially passed the bill as a complete ban before considering a regulated approach.
If enacted, the law will effectively eliminate all THC-related commercial and personal activities in Texas. State agencies would be responsible for enforcing the ban.
The legislation requires the signature of Governor Greg Abbott to take effect. The governor has not yet commented on the bill.
