AUSTIN — The Texas Capitol Gift Shop has unveiled its 31st annual Capitol ornament, featuring a gold Lone Star with the Capitol dome at its center to honor Texas history and the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The 2026 ornament costs $25, with proceeds supporting Capitol preservation and educational programs.
The design draws on the Lone Star’s long history at the Texas Capitol, including several prominent examples dating back more than a century.
In 1885, officials installed one of the earliest Lone Star cornerstones on the 49th anniversary of Texas Independence Day. In 1888, the original Lone Star held by the Capitol’s Goddess of Liberty became part of the building’s history and now sits at the Capitol Visitors Center.
The Capitol Rotunda features another Lone Star in its terrazzo floor, installed in 1936 to commemorate the Texas Centennial. In 1958, officials added a three-dimensional metal Lone Star suspended at the top of the Capitol Dome.
The 2026 ornament combines those symbols of Texas heritage with the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
Shoppers can purchase the ornament online or at Texas Capitol Gift Shops in the Capitol Extension and Capitol Visitors Center. The Bullock Texas State History Museum Store also carries the ornament.
