State education officials in Texas announced that eligible families can use school vouchers to send 3- and 4-year-old children who qualify for free public pre-K to private preschool programs.

The Texas Education Agency oversees the program, which allows families to apply for state funds that cover some or all tuition at participating private pre-K providers.

Voucher funds are sent directly to approved private schools, which apply them toward tuition. Private providers must meet state standards for curriculum, staff, and health and safety.

Families must apply to participate, submit required documentation, and select a single provider. The number of voucher slots depends on funding and provider capacity.

The program operates alongside public pre-K, which remains available to all children who meet eligibility rules. The agency tracks enrollment and compliance and periodically reviews participating schools to ensure standards are met.
