Terry Black’s Barbecue, a renowned family-operated barbecue chain, is set to make its mark in Houston, Texas, adding to its impressive footprint across the state. Known for its authentic Central Texas barbecue, featuring brisket, pork ribs, and sausage, Terry Black’s has gained prominence in cities like Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Lockhart, and Waco. The brand’s expansion into Houston signifies its continued growth trajectory, with construction at the new location on 1311 N. Shepherd Dr. slated to commence on August 1. The planned 8,321-square-foot restaurant, including a 1,255-square-foot pit room, represents a $6.5 million investment, with completion expected by summer 2026.

This Houston venture is part of Black Family Hospitality’s (BFH) broader ambitions for the Houston Heights neighborhood, led by co-founder Mark Black. Since 2021, BFH has acquired properties in the area, securing the entire 1300 block of N. Shepherd Drive. Their vision includes not only the new barbecue outlet but also a boutique hotel with one-to-two-story bungalows, each equipped with kitchenettes and living spaces. These developments are in line with the ongoing Memorial Heights Redevelopment Authority’s $100 million infrastructure project aimed at enhancing the Shepherd-Durham corridor with bicycle lanes and wider sidewalks.

Beyond Texas, BFH is expanding its footprint into San Antonio and has set its sights on Nashville, Tennessee, with plans for additional barbecue joints and hospitality ventures. Terry Black’s Dallas location was recognized as one of Texas Monthly’s Top 50 Texas BBQ Joints in 2021, and its Austin branch recently received an honorable mention in 2025. As Terry Black’s prepares to enter the Houston market, the brand continues to uphold its reputation for quality and innovation in the competitive Texas barbecue scene.
