DALLAS — A juvenile died after a vehicle struck the person on the Julius Schepps Freeway in Dallas on Saturday morning, according to police.

Dallas police said officers responded at about 10:24 a.m. to the 8100 block of the northbound Julius Schepps Freeway for a reported major crash.

Police initially investigated the incident as a collision involving two vehicles but later determined the crash involved an auto-pedestrian strike.

Investigators said a juvenile passenger exited a stopped vehicle that had been positioned in the northbound left lane when an SUV approached from behind.

Police said the SUV driver attempted to avoid the stopped vehicle but struck the juvenile in the roadway. The SUV then spun out and rolled over after the impact.

Emergency responders transported the juvenile to a hospital in critical condition. The juvenile later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities did not release the victim’s age.

Police said the SUV driver also went to a hospital in stable condition after speaking with investigators at the scene.

Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.
