State lawmakers gather at Texas Capitol to honor Sylvester Turner’s legacy

HOUSTON, Texas– State lawmakers and friends gathered at the Texas Capitol to honor Sylvester Turner, who died at 70 due to health issues.

Turner served as the Mayor of Houston and as a U.S. Congressman.

Turner’s political career included serving in the Texas House of Representatives before becoming mayor.

His work in the legislature focused on education, infrastructure, and community development.

As mayor, Turner addressed issues including hurricane recovery, economic development, and infrastructure. He led efforts during Hurricane Harvey and worked on revitalizing neighborhoods and expanding public transportation.

Turner’s tenure in Congress included advocating for federal aid during natural disasters, supporting economic development, and pushing for reforms in healthcare and education.
