SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A young spider monkey was found wearing a soiled diaper in a residential neighborhood in northwest San Antonio, according to San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS).
The animal, estimated to be around six months old, was discovered near Lansbury and Weybridge roads with no owner present.
ACS responded to a call from a concerned resident and safely retrieved the monkey, transporting it for evaluation and care. Officials stated the monkey appeared to require specialized attention but was in stable condition.
Possession of primates is prohibited within the city limits of San Antonio. In connection with the incident, the animal’s owner was issued four criminal citations for violating the city’s ordinances on exotic pet ownership.
The monkey will be transferred to a suitable facility in coordination with animal welfare partners. ACS said it will continue to enforce local laws on exotic animal ownership and urged residents to report any sightings of prohibited animals.
City officials noted that the case highlights ongoing challenges related to illegal wildlife possession in urban areas and the importance of community awareness and compliance with animal regulations.
