Sotto confident in senate leadership amid tensions with minority

Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Tuesday expressed confidence in his leadership of the chamber despite rising tensions with the minority bloc.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Senate, Sotto acknowledged the presence of differing views among senators but maintained that such differences are part of a healthy democratic process. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring unity, cooperation, and effective collaboration in the upper chamber.

“Differences in opinion are expected, but they should not hinder us from carrying out our legislative duties,” Sotto said.

The Senate President assured that disagreements between the majority and minority would not disrupt the chamber’s legislative work. He underscored the importance of dialogue and mutual understanding to resolve disputes, adding that the situation remains “manageable.”

Minority senators have voiced concerns about certain legislative processes, but Sotto responded by affirming the Senate’s commitment to transparency and inviting open discussions to address any issues.

Highlighting previous legislative achievements under his leadership, Sotto said the Senate remains capable of passing measures vital to national development. He reiterated that cooperation among all senators is key to achieving legislative goals.

“Ultimately, our priority must be the country’s interest,” Sotto said, thanking the majority bloc for their continued support.

Sotto vowed to sustain an inclusive leadership style, stressing dialogue and consensus-building as essential tools for guiding the Senate through political challenges.
