MANILA, Philippines — Sofronio Vasquez III has made history as the first Filipino to win The Voice USA Season 26.

The Filipino singer’s victory has not only put him into the spotlight but also opened up new opportunities to introduce Original Pilipino Music (OPM) to a broader audience in the United States.

Vasquez, who hails from the Philippines, impressed both audiences and judges throughout the competition with his vocal ability and stage presence.

He is committed to using his newfound platform to promote OPM in the U.S. and introduce Filipino music to a wider audience beyond the Filipino and Asian communities.

Vasquez has expressed his desire to elevate OPM to new heights, showcasing its rich cultural heritage on the global stage.

Throughout the competition, Vasquez’s music choices reflected his versatility. He performed a mix of international hits and Filipino classics, resonating with both Filipino and international audiences. His rendition of OPM classics sparked nostalgia and pride among Filipino fans, while introducing OPM to those unfamiliar with the genre.

Upon returning to the Philippines after his victory, Vasquez was warmly welcomed by his home country.

He paid a courtesy visit to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who congratulated him on his success. This meeting highlighted the pride Filipinos feel in Vasquez’s accomplishment, as well as his role as a cultural ambassador for the Philippines.

Looking ahead, Vasquez plans to collaborate with both local and international artists to blend diverse musical styles and bring OPM to new listeners.

He aims to perform at various music festivals and events across the U.S., further promoting the genre to wider audiences. His dynamic stage presence and powerful vocals are expected to leave a lasting impression on festivalgoers and music fans.

In the Philippines, Vasquez has expressed interest in collaborating with renowned OPM icons.

Such partnerships would strengthen his ties within the local music industry and promote cultural exchange between Filipino and American artists.

Vasquez’s ambition to bridge the gap between the two countries through music underscores his dedication to both his craft and his heritage.
