South Korean law enforcement has launched an investigation into an incident involving Jin, a member of the globally popular K-pop group BTS.

The incident, which occurred during a fan meet and greet event in Seoul last year, involves a Japanese woman who allegedly kissed Jin on the cheek without his consent.

The event, attended by around 1,000 fans, was organized as a free hug gathering by Jin.

During this event, the woman is reported to have approached Jin and kissed him on the cheek, an interaction that was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media.

The Songpa police station in Seoul, handling the investigation, has summoned the woman to address the allegations.

Law enforcement has indicated that the case is being treated as potential sexual harassment.

Details regarding the woman’s identity and her response to the summons have not yet been released.

Jin, whose real name is Kim Seok-jin, is one of the seven members of BTS, a group with a massive international fanbase.

In South Korea, incidents of unwanted physical contact can be addressed under sexual harassment laws, with legal consequences ranging from fines to imprisonment if proven.

This incident has ignited discussions around the boundaries of fan interactions with celebrities, especially in the K-pop industry, where fan engagements are common. It highlights the importance of respecting personal boundaries and obtaining consent in all interactions.

As the investigation continues, further updates from the Seoul police are expected. The outcome of the case may set a precedent for how similar incidents are handled in the future.
