TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taiwanese media personality Dee Hsu said she continues to blame herself for the death of her sister, actress Barbie Hsu, a year after Hsu died from influenza-induced pneumonia during a family trip to Japan in February 2025.
In an episode of the “DeeGirlsTalk” program, Dee Hsu said she initiated the family trip and continues to question that decision. She said the trip took place during the Lunar New Year period, when travel demand is typically high, despite initial hesitation from their mother.
Dee Hsu said the family ultimately agreed to proceed with the trip so they could spend time together, noting that all siblings and their children participated.
She said her mother had expressed concern about traveling during the holiday period, but the trip went ahead after family discussions.
Dee Hsu also said she has struggled emotionally since her sister’s death and has tried to manage her grief while caring for her child. She said she has at times experienced difficulty coping with the loss.
Barbie Hsu, known for her role in the television drama “Meteor Garden,” died at age 48. She is survived by her husband Koo Jun-yup and two children from her previous marriage to businessman Wang Xiaofei.
