LOS ANGELES — A Florida woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing at the home of singer Rihanna while the artist, her partner A$AP Rocky, their children and family members were on the property, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, of Orlando, Florida, faces one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or vehicle, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities said no one was injured.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the shooting occurred Sunday afternoon at Rihanna’s residence in the Beverly Hills area, Los Angeles. He said the singer and A$AP Rocky were inside a trailer on the property while other family members and staff were inside the house.
Ortiz appeared in court wearing jail clothing and spoke with her attorney, Jamarcus Bradford, through a glass divider. Bradford initially entered a not guilty plea on her behalf but withdrew it to postpone the arraignment until March 25. The court ordered Ortiz held on $1.8 million bail.
Judge Theresa McGonigle issued a protective order requiring Ortiz to stay away from Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, whose legal names are Robyn Fenty and Rakim Mayers. The order also bars Ortiz from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Prosecutors said the three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling relate to Rihanna’s home, a trailer on the property and a neighboring house. The assault charges involve Rihanna, her family members, staff and people in the neighboring residence.
Police arrested Ortiz shortly after the shooting in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, several miles from the property.
Authorities said Ortiz could face life in prison if convicted on all counts. Investigators have not disclosed the motive for the shooting or any possible connection between Ortiz and Rihanna.
Rihanna, a nine-time Grammy Awards winner, has recorded multiple No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and founded the cosmetics company Fenty Beauty in 2017.
