MANILA, Philippines– Senators rejected the proposal of Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano to hold snap elections in the Philippines, citing concerns over stability and governance.

Senate President Tito Sotto warned that conducting snap elections could cause uncertainty and disrupt government operations. The proposal surfaced amid ongoing political discussions in Congress.

Cayetano said his suggestion sought to address current political issues through an expedited electoral process. However, Sotto and several senators questioned the clarity, timing, and feasibility of the plan.

Lawmakers emphasized the importance of maintaining order and continuity in government functions. They noted that snap elections are uncommon in the country and require careful study before implementation.
