Senator John Cornyn and Attorney General Ken Paxton are preparing for a competitive GOP primary in Texas as Cornyn seeks reelection to the U.S. Senate in 2026.

Cornyn made a campaign appearance at the Fed Supernova Conference in Austin on Wednesday, aiming to connect with voters and highlight his legislative record. Recent polling shows Cornyn holding a slim 1% lead over Paxton, with a large number of voters yet to make a decision.

Cornyn intends to focus his campaign on his Senate accomplishments and experience. Meanwhile, Paxton faces renewed scrutiny over past controversies, including his impeachment and related investigations, which may influence voter perception.

Cornyn has also suggested that securing support from former President Donald Trump could be a factor in shaping the outcome of the primary race.
