AUSTIN — Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against San Antonio-based CAM Solar Inc., accusing the firm of deceptive trade practices tied to solar panel sales, warranty issues, and financing practices that allegedly left consumers with malfunctioning systems and unexpected costs.

The lawsuit, filed in Bexar County district court, follows a recent investigation into the solar industry that highlighted thousands of consumer complaints made to the Office of the Attorney General.

According to the petition, CAM Solar allegedly promised homeowners lower electric bills, long-term warranties, and reliable customer service, but some customers reported systems that failed early, produced lower-than-expected savings, or became difficult and costly to repair.

In several complaints cited by the state, solar systems allegedly stopped working within a few years of installation. One homeowner claimed panels detached from a roof during a storm less than a year after being installed, causing additional property damage. The state also alleges that an engineer for the company acknowledged improper installation in some cases, but remediation was later refused.

The lawsuit further claims the company imposed undisclosed warranty fees and used misleading financing practices, including cases where loan arrangements were structured in ways that differed from what consumers were told during sales presentations.

Texas is seeking both temporary and permanent injunctions to stop the alleged practices, preserve company records, identify affected customers, and impose civil penalties under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

CAM Solar, which operates in Texas and Colorado, has not yet publicly responded in detail to the latest legal action, according to the filing.
