SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio blow-dry salon is honoring Dolly Parton with an ofrenda and its signature big-hair style after the country music icon’s death.
Hello Darling Blow Dry Bar, which opened about three years ago, drew inspiration from Parton’s music, style and career when owner Melissa Turner launched the salon.
Turner said Parton’s confidence and ambition also shaped the salon’s vision.
“I was just always inspired by Dolly, as she was such an icon for so many women,” Turner said. “She was always believed in big hair, big personality, and just doing your thing.”
The salon’s pink décor and styling services reflect the Nashville-inspired look that Turner wanted to bring to San Antonio.
After news of Parton’s death, clients and community members contacted the salon to share memories, favorite songs and stories about the singer.
“So many community members and clients have reached out to us, checked in on us seeing how we’re doing, shared stories of why we loved her, our favorite songs,” Turner said.
The salon created an ofrenda to remember Parton. The display features her photo, an “In Dolly We Trust” item, a book featuring lessons from “9 to 5” and a guitar representing her music career.
“We wanted to dedicate a little something to her,” Turner said.
Turner said Parton’s influence extended beyond her appearance and music. She credited the singer with encouraging women to pursue their goals and believe in themselves.
“She inspired so many women to dream big, to go after what you believe in,” Turner said.
Parton’s signature hairstyle also remains part of the salon’s identity.
“So if you want big Texas hair, just like Dolly,” Turner said, “we’ll make sure that we make you feel special, encourage you to follow your dreams and get that big hair.”
