MANILA, Philippines — Robin Padilla said on April 24 in a television interview that he is reconsidering plans to retire from public life to focus on his wife, Mariel Rodriguez, and their children, and that he may step away from politics if the country’s system of government remains unchanged.

Padilla made the statement during an appearance on the program “Politiko Talks” on Bilyonaryo News Channel, where host Marichu Villanueva asked about reports that he is selling the Museo de Padilla in Quezon City.

The Museo de Padilla, the former residence of the Padilla family, operates as an events venue and features traditional Filipino architecture with Spanish design elements, including a music room, meeting hall, conference hall, and three ballrooms.

Padilla said he had considered retiring as early as 2010 and relocating abroad with Rodriguez. He said they visited the Netherlands and Germany while exploring options.

He said he may choose to spend more time with his family instead of pursuing another term in the 2028 elections if no changes occur in the current system of government.

Padilla said he had previously considered retiring in Brunei and had visited the country with Rodriguez, but they did not pursue the plan. He added that they also considered Iceland but found it too expensive.

During the interview, Padilla denied that the sale of Museo de Padilla is intended to raise funds for a future political campaign. He said he did not conduct fundraising during the 2022 Senate race.

Padilla said multiple parties have expressed interest in purchasing the property.
