DALLAS, Texas — Robert “Snake” LeGrand, a longtime figure in the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) basketball community, died on July 19, 2025, at the age of 81. He passed away surrounded by family and friends.
LeGrand began his association with UTA basketball in the late 1960s as a player. His performance on the court earned recognition from teammates and coaches, and he played a central role in several key games during his collegiate career.
Following his time as a player, LeGrand transitioned into coaching. He emphasized skill development, teamwork, and discipline. His leadership contributed to the advancement of UTA’s basketball program, and a number of players coached by him later pursued professional sports careers.
LeGrand also participated in community service and youth outreach programs, particularly in the Dallas area. He was involved in efforts aimed at supporting underprivileged youth and local development initiatives.
LeGrand is survived by his family, who described him as a devoted husband and father. A memorial service will be held at the UTA basketball arena, where members of the university and broader community are expected to gather in his honor.
