The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed Wednesday that Hamas returned the remains of several individuals believed to be former hostages as part of the ongoing ceasefire agreement.

One of the bodies did not match the identities of any known Israeli hostages.

The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was established to suspend hostilities and facilitate the recovery of captives, as well as the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The return of hostages’ remains is a component of the agreement under international monitoring.

Israeli authorities have conducted preliminary identifications of the remains and initiated forensic examinations to confirm the findings. The unidentified body prompted further investigation.

The IDF stated that the forensic process is ongoing. Officials are coordinating with relevant agencies to complete identification and communicate results to affected families.
