MANILA, Philippines — Quentin Millora-Brown, a 6-foot-10 basketball player, has filed an appeal with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) seeking reclassification as a local player for the Philippines’ national team, Gilas Pilipinas.

Millora-Brown, who recently suited up for the Macau Black Bears in a tune-up game against Gilas, is currently classified by FIBA as a naturalized player. Officials from Gilas and Millora-Brown’s camp are pursuing a status change that would allow him to represent the Philippines as a local athlete in international competitions.

Lawyers representing Millora-Brown believe they have a strong legal case and are working to convince FIBA to reconsider the current classification. Gilas head coach Tim Cone expressed optimism, saying he has been informed of the case’s merits and is hopeful for a favorable outcome.

The Philippine Basketball Association has also voiced support for Millora-Brown’s appeal. If successful, the change could expand Gilas Pilipinas’ options for its roster ahead of upcoming international tournaments.

Millora-Brown’s status as a naturalized player currently limits his eligibility, as teams are allowed only one naturalized player in FIBA-sanctioned events. A shift in classification would provide Gilas with greater flexibility in forming its lineup.

FIBA has yet to issue a ruling on the matter.
