LONDON, United Kingdom — Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, plan to move back to the United Kingdom by the end of the month, British media reported Wednesday, six years after the couple stepped down as working royals and moved to the United States.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to settle in a private residence outside London rather than return to a royal property, The Telegraph reported.
Several UK news outlets, including the BBC, reported that their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, have enrolled in a British school ahead of the new school year in September.
The Press Association reported that King Charles III learned Sunday of the couple’s plans to return to the UK. The monarch welcomes the prospect of spending more time with his family in a personal capacity, but Harry and Meghan will retain their current status as non-working royals, according to PA.
The reported move comes weeks after Harry, Meghan and their children visited the UK in July and met privately with Charles. The children had not seen their grandfather since 2022.
Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, moved to California in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties amid tensions with the royal family. Their relationship with the family deteriorated further after Harry published his memoir, “Spare.”
Harry has since expressed a desire to reconcile with his father, who has been undergoing treatment for cancer. The type of cancer has not been disclosed.
The couple’s return follows a series of developments surrounding Harry’s relationship with the royal family. During their July visit, reports that Harry would stay at Buckingham Palace were followed by a palace denial that he had accepted an invitation to use the royal residence.
Harry has also maintained a long-running dispute with the British media and has linked his concerns about press intrusion to the death of his mother, Princess Diana, who died in a 1997 Paris car crash while being pursued by paparazzi.
