Pope Francis was laid to rest on Saturday, in a ceremony attended by approximately 250,000 mourners and various world leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City.
Hundreds of thousands gathered in the square, with many waiting overnight to secure a place in front of St. Peter’s Basilica, demonstrating their support for the Argentine pope.
The Vatican reported that the crowd reached about 250,000 people who attended to pay their respects to Pope Francis, the first Latin American leader of the Catholic Church.
More than 50 heads of state were present for the solemn event, showcasing the global impact and reach of the pontiff’s influence.
President Trump was among the attendees, joining other world leaders in a corner of the square for discussions and tributes.
The occasion marked a significant moment for the Catholic community, emphasizing the widespread admiration and respect for the “pope among the people.”
