MANILA, Philippines– Senator-elect Panfilo “Ping” Lacson on Friday called for the Senate to convene as an impeachment court to conduct a trial for Vice President Sara Duterte.

Lacson stated the trial should continue into the next Congress to ascertain her guilt, as the Senate lacks the legal authority to dismiss the case without a trial.

Lacson, who recently secured his fourth six-year term in the 20th Congress, opposed a draft resolution by Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.

Dela Rosa’s resolution urged the Senate to dismiss the impeachment case due to an inability to address it following an earlier move by Senate President Francis Escudero.
