MANILA, Philippines — Filipino boxing star Nesthy Petecio has set her sights on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, aiming for the gold medal that has eluded her in past competitions.

After securing a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Petecio’s ambition remains clear: to become the first Filipina to claim Olympic gold in boxing.

Petecio, who has built a career of determination and skill, is also eyeing immediate goals in her boxing journey.

She plans to reclaim her title as world champion and defend her gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games.

Despite the long road to the 2028 Olympics, Petecio’s focus remains sharp as she continues to train for the world championships and regional competitions.

The 2028 Olympics represent both an opportunity and a challenge for Petecio, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding the inclusion of boxing in the event.

However, Petecio remains resolute in her pursuit, committed to maintaining top-level performance. She has proven herself on the international stage, becoming the first Filipina to win an Olympic boxing medal in Tokyo.

Since beginning her boxing career at a young age, Petecio has overcome numerous obstacles to reach the pinnacle of the sport.

Her rise to prominence, which included multiple national championships, was a testament to her grit and determination.

Today, she stands as a role model for aspiring athletes in the Philippines, showing that hard work and perseverance can lead to success on the world stage.

As Petecio returns to training, her focus is on maintaining peak physical and mental condition. Her dedication to her craft remains unwavering as she prepares for the challenges ahead.

Despite the uncertainties and the long road to 2028, Petecio’s journey continues to captivate the Filipino audience, who eagerly anticipate her next moves in the ring.

With the 2028 Olympics on the horizon, Nesthy Petecio’s story is one of ambition, perseverance, and hope. As she works toward her ultimate goal of Olympic gold, her journey serves as a powerful reminder of the strength required to achieve greatness.
