SAN ANTONIO — Animal Care Services (ACS) reported a surge in calls over the weekend as freezing temperatures hit South Central Texas, taking in more than 100 animals and issuing nearly 100 criminal citations.
ACS spokesperson Lisa Norwood said the department received over 1,100 calls for service, about half of which were related to alleged weather-related neglect.
Norwood said ACS increased staffing to manage the volume but urged the public to report animals in need by calling 311 with detailed location and descriptions.
“We know that we have more to do, but we can’t do it without the community,” Norwood said.
The City of San Antonio plans to fully reopen and resume regular operations on Tuesday. ACS will also reopen for adoptions, fosters, and donations for residents who wish to help animals affected by the cold.
