MANILA — Malacañang on Tuesday described the impeachment complaints filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as an attack that could affect not only the president but also the Philippine economy, while saying the administration will respect Congress’ legal process.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro made the remarks during a briefing, following the referral of two impeachment complaints against Marcos to the House Committee on Justice on Monday.

“In a way, yes, because as we said, the filing of an impeachment complaint does not only affect the president but also the country and its economy,” Castro said.

She added that the complaints will not stop Marcos from continuing his work and that the president will comply with any document submissions required by the process.

Castro also praised House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos III for voluntarily recusing himself from discussions on his father’s impeachment, calling it “a hallmark of a statesman.”

The first complaint was filed on January 19 by Atty. Andre de Jesus, while the second was filed on January 26 by leaders of progressive groups. The referral triggered a one-year ban on filing subsequent complaints against the president.
