Malacañang Palace rejected claims that the investigation into alleged anomalies in multi-billion peso flood control projects was underwhelming, saying on Tuesday, March 31, that the volume of recommended cases has strained government agencies handling them.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice are “overwhelmed” by the number of cases endorsed for filing following the findings of the Independent Commission on Infrastructure.

Castro said the ICI has completed its fact-finding work and submitted its recommendations, but investigations are ongoing under the DOJ and the Ombudsman. She added that the commission’s role was limited to gathering facts and endorsing cases for further action.

She said all cases recommended by the ICI are now either filed or under further investigation by the appropriate agencies.

Castro also rejected claims that the investigation has slowed, stating that authorities continue to act on the commission’s report.

She said the administration of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. remains committed to pursuing accountability based on evidence, regardless of the position of those involved, and aims to sustain anti-corruption efforts beyond the current term.
