KERR COUNTY, Texas — Kerr County officials have begun assessing damage to homes and buildings caused by recent flooding, following a presidential disaster declaration issued in response to severe storms and high water across the region.

The Kerr County Engineering Department is conducting the evaluations to determine the extent of the damage and identify necessary repairs and support. The assessments are part of the county’s flood damage prevention measures and will guide the allocation of resources for recovery efforts.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott requested the federal disaster declaration after reviewing the impact of the flooding. The declaration, approved by the president, activates federal aid programs to support the county’s recovery. Assistance includes funding for infrastructure repairs and housing support.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will oversee the distribution of federal assistance and ensure compliance with federal regulations. The declaration process began with state-level damage assessments and FEMA’s review, which led to the president’s approval.

To support the assessment process, the county has launched the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT), an online platform where homeowners and building owners can report flood damage. Officials said the tool streamlines data collection and improves response coordination.

Local authorities have issued guidelines for repairing flood-damaged structures to ensure compliance with Kerr County’s floodplain management policies. These regulations aim to maintain public safety and protect investments in high-risk areas.

Officials are urging residents to cooperate with assessment teams and provide accurate damage reports to help facilitate recovery. Community participation is essential for organizing an effective response and planning for future disaster mitigation.

Kerr County has experienced previous flooding events and continues to prioritize disaster preparedness. The information collected through the current assessments will be used to strengthen long-term flood response strategies.
