DALLAS — North Texas will face temperatures near 100 degrees Sunday as strengthening high pressure brings above-average heat and mostly dry conditions across the region during the Labor Day weekend.
Temperatures will reach the mid-90s around lunchtime and climb to about 100 degrees in the late afternoon, while southeast winds at 5 to 10 mph will continue to bring moisture into the region.
Higher dew points could push the heat index to about 108 degrees in some areas.
The National Weather Service has a heat advisory in effect through 8 p.m. Sunday. More than 36 million people across the United States remain under heat alerts.
Forecasters expect most of North Texas to remain dry and sunny Sunday. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport has recorded 52 consecutive days without measurable rainfall, and the region could extend that streak.
Triple-digit temperatures could continue through the coming week. North Texas has recorded 41 days at or above 100 degrees so far this year, with additional 100-degree days expected.
A weak cold front could bring a chance for showers or thunderstorms toward the end of the week, but forecasters expect limited chances for rain.
