Actress Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in “Scream 7,” which franchise creator Kevin Williamson will direct, marking his first time helming an installment in the horror series he created.
Campbell confirmed her return in an interview sent to Inquirer Entertainment and said she asked Williamson to direct the film. Williamson wrote the original 1996 “Scream” film and now takes the director’s chair for the seventh installment.
Campbell said she felt excited when she learned about the story and the direction of her character. She said the film brings back classic set pieces and characters from the original movie.
In “Scream 7,” Sidney begins the story in a stable phase of her life after surviving previous attacks. Campbell said Sidney has built a family and found peace but faces new threats as the story unfolds.
According to the film’s synopsis, a new Ghostface killer emerges in the town where Sidney lives, and the killer targets her daughter.
Isabel May joins the cast as Sidney’s daughter, Tatum. Campbell said she worked closely with May to portray a complex mother-daughter relationship.
Courteney Cox also returns as Gale Weathers, sharing more scenes with Campbell in the new film. Campbell said the characters’ dynamic continues to develop in this installment.
