MANILA, Philippines– Former actress and businesswoman Neri Naig described her recent detention as a “nightmare,” reflecting on what she called one of the lowest points in her life following her arrest in connection with an alleged investment scam involving skincare company Dermacare.
Authorities arrested Naig on November 23, 2024, at the basement of a convention center in a Pasay City mall.
She was held for more than a week on accusations of syndicated estafa and securities violations linked to her role as an endorser for the company. A Pasay City court ordered her release on December 4 after reviewing the charges.
In a statement issued through her legal team, Naig expressed the emotional toll of the experience and shared her commitment to clearing her name.
“It was a nightmare,” she said, referring to the time she spent in detention.
Naig’s legal troubles began after Dermacare was accused of operating an investment scam. The company faces 14 counts of violating the Securities Regulation Code.
Authorities included Naig in the case due to her involvement in promoting the brand’s products.
Her husband, musician Chito Miranda, publicly defended her, asserting her innocence and expressing confidence in her character. Supporters of Naig have also voiced relief over her release and pledged continued support.
As the case against Dermacare continues, Naig said her focus is on healing, facing the legal process, and rebuilding her reputation.
