HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Rockets and guard Fred VanVleet have agreed to extend the deadline for a decision on the $44.9 million team option in his NBA contract, ESPN reported on Wednesday.
The new deadline for the decision is set for June 29, providing both sides additional time to either exercise the 2025-26 option or negotiate a long-term contract.
VanVleet, 31, has spent the last two seasons with the Rockets after a seven-year stint with the Toronto Raptors.
During his time in Toronto, he played a key role in the Raptors’ 2018-19 NBA Championship win and earned an All-Star selection in the 2021-22 season.
In his first season with Houston, VanVleet started 60 games, averaging 14.1 points, 5.6 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game.
The extension of the deadline gives both the Rockets and VanVleet more time to assess their future plans, including the possibility of a long-term agreement.
