NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Pelicans forward Herb Jones has agreed to a three-year, $68 million contract extension, his agent Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports confirmed to the Associated Press on Thursday.

The extension will keep Jones under contract through the 2028–29 NBA season, with a player option included for the 2029–30 season.

Jones, recognized for his defensive versatility and consistent performance, has played a key role for the Pelicans since joining the team in 2021. His contributions on both ends of the court have made him a foundational piece of the roster, prompting the organization to secure his long-term future.

The deal is part of the Pelicans’ broader strategy to retain core players and build a stable, competitive team in the Western Conference. The contract terms reflect the franchise’s confidence in Jones and the value he brings to the team.

Jones has emerged as one of the NBA’s more effective wing defenders, regularly matching up against top scorers. His ability to impact games defensively while contributing as a secondary scorer and playmaker has earned praise from coaches and analysts.

The player option for the 2029–30 season gives Jones flexibility while maintaining his role in the Pelicans’ long-term plans. The team views the extension as a key step as it looks to compete for playoff success in the coming seasons.

The agreement was finalized with the help of agent Mark Bartelstein, who negotiated the deal to reflect Jones’ rising stature within the league.

Jones averaged 11.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game during the 2023–24 season, starting in 66 games for New Orleans.
