NBA Commissioner Adam Silver addressed the public Friday night following the arrests of Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier on gambling-related charges, saying he was “deeply disturbed” over the developments.
Silver spoke during an interview on Amazon Prime Video and described the indictments as shocking. The arrests, made earlier in the week, involve allegations tied to illegal gambling. Neither Billups nor Rozier has released a public statement.
The NBA has opened an internal investigation and pledged full cooperation with authorities. Silver stressed the league’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal gambling and said existing policies will be reviewed in light of the situation.
Potential disciplinary action remains under consideration pending investigative findings. Legal proceedings are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
Silver emphasized the league’s commitment to protecting competitive integrity “at all costs.”
