MANILA, Philippines — Actress Nadine Lustre said a court has convicted a man she accused of online sexual harassment, describing the case as a step toward promoting accountability on social media.

Lustre filed a complaint on May 21, 2025, for violation of Republic Act No. 11313, or the Safe Spaces Act, against a social media user who allegedly posted offensive and sexually harassing comments on her Instagram account.

Speaking during a media interview for her and Alden Richards’ Viu series Love, Siargao, Lustre said she initially ignored the comment but decided to pursue legal action after the individual posted additional remarks that she described as more offensive.

She said her legal counsel advised her to file a case and later identified the account holder despite the account having limited public information.

Lustre said she eventually met the respondent after legal documents were served and that the case has since concluded.

According to the actress, the court imposed a sentence on the man that included rehabilitation and gender sensitivity seminars.

She said the respondent also apologized.

Lustre said she pursued the case to show that people can be held accountable for abusive behavior online and emphasized that social media should remain a safe space for everyone.

She added that individuals should not assume anonymity on social media protects them from legal consequences for harmful posts.
