DALLAS, Texas–Authorities have confirmed that at least 135 individuals have died following severe flooding in Texas.

The disaster struck on July 4, when floodwaters surged to a height of 26 feet along the Guadalupe River, impacting areas primarily in Kerr County. Search efforts continue for three people who remain unaccounted for.

The flooding event occurred rapidly, catching many residents off guard as homes and vehicles were swept away. Rescue operations were launched immediately following the floods, with emergency personnel and volunteers responding across the affected areas.

Initial reports indicated approximately 160 individuals were missing. That figure was later revised as rescue and recovery teams accounted for the majority of those initially unreported. Currently, three individuals remain missing.

The flood event has been described by officials as one of the deadliest natural disasters in recent Texas history. Search and recovery crews have been working to locate missing persons and recover remains from debris and submerged structures.

Local officials reported that early warnings and coordinated rescue responses contributed to the number of people found safe. Nevertheless, the damage to infrastructure and property has been extensive.

Meteorologists reported that the flooding was driven by unusually intense rainfall, contributing to the rapid rise of the Guadalupe River. The National Weather Service and other agencies continue to monitor regional conditions as recovery progresses.

The Texas state government has pledged support for recovery and rebuilding efforts. Restoration of essential services and infrastructure is underway in the most heavily affected communities.

Local, state, and federal agencies—including the National Guard, fire departments, and emergency response units—participated in rescue and recovery operations. Officials acknowledged the logistical challenges presented by the scale and speed of the flooding.

Officials continue to prioritize the search for the remaining missing persons and the provision of support to the families of the deceased.
