HOUSTON, Texas – A pregnant woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident Tuesday evening near the intersection of Main Street and Avenue Q, according to the Houston Police Department (HPD).

The victim, identified as Gloria Guevara, was struck by a speeding vehicle around 8 p.m. while crossing the street. The driver fled the scene.

Emergency responders transported Guevara to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Family members confirmed that Guevara was expecting a child and had previously lost a child last year. They described her as a loving mother who was looking forward to expanding her family.

Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored sedan leaving the area at high speed following the collision. Police are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and have urged anyone with information to contact HPD or Crime Stoppers. Authorities emphasized that all tips will remain confidential.

A candlelight vigil was held at the site of the accident, drawing support from family members, friends, and members of the local community. Participants honored Guevara’s life and called for accountability in the ongoing investigation.

The Houston City Council is currently discussing measures to address the increase in hit-and-run incidents. Proposals include enhancing pedestrian zone lighting, expanding surveillance coverage, and strengthening penalties for drivers who flee accident scenes.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, hit-and-run cases have risen over the past year. Officials continue to encourage public cooperation to help solve the case and prevent similar tragedies.

Guevara’s family has established a fund to assist with funeral expenses and raise awareness about the consequences of reckless driving. The investigation remains open. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact HPD’s Hit-and-Run Division or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
