GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — General Santos City Councilor Michael Pacquiao skipped the wedding of his brother Jimuel Pacquiao in the United States on June 13 to assist earthquake victims in General Santos City following a magnitude 7.8 quake that struck parts of Mindanao earlier this week, according to his girlfriend.
In an Instagram post on June 14, Joyce Tan Custodio said Michael remained in the Philippines to help residents affected by the earthquake instead of attending the wedding in California.
Custodio said Michael focused on relief efforts immediately after the quake hit.
“Missing an important family moment was not easy, but your commitment to serving others speaks volumes about the kind of leader and person you are,” Custodio wrote.
She said Michael directed his attention to affected communities in General Santos City following the earthquake.
“When the 7.8 magnitude earthquake [hit] Gensan, your thoughts immediately turned to the people who depended on you,” she said.
Michael Pacquiao currently serves as a city councilor in General Santos City.
The wedding of Jimuel Pacquiao and his longtime partner, Carolina Pimentel, took place in California and was attended by family members and close friends.
The couple welcomed their daughter, Clara, in November 2025.
The earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao caused damage in several areas, including General Santos City, where local authorities and communities have continued relief and recovery operations.
Custodio also defended Michael’s public service work in her post and said she supported his actions.
“Even when some people have negative things to say about the way you serve, I know your heart and the intentions behind everything you do,” she said.
Michael Pacquiao is the son of former senator and boxing champion Manny Pacquiao and Jinkee Pacquiao.
Michael and Custodio have been publicly linked since late 2025.
