Meta Platforms Inc. attempted to recruit employees from OpenAI by offering bonuses and salaries reportedly exceeding $100 million, according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

Altman shared the information during an interview on the “Uncapped with Jack Altman” podcast, hosted by his brother. The episode was released on Tuesday.

According to Altman, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, made these offers as part of its efforts to strengthen its generative AI teams. He characterized the recruitment efforts as extensive.

The reported compensation packages included significant annual salaries and bonuses aimed at attracting staff from OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT. It remains unclear whether any employees accepted the offers or which specific roles were targeted.

Both OpenAI and Meta are active in the development of artificial intelligence technologies and operate in a competitive landscape for AI talent.

The remarks by Altman reflect ongoing efforts by technology companies to recruit skilled professionals in AI, a field experiencing rapid growth. Companies across the industry are investing in talent acquisition to support innovation and product development.

Neither Meta nor OpenAI has issued additional public comments regarding the reported recruitment efforts.
