SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The administration of San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones has experienced additional turnover, with one of its senior officials stepping down after less than a year in office.

Dr. Jenise Carroll, a U.S. Air Force veteran and former FBI supervisor, submitted her resignation to the mayor on Wednesday, effective May 12. Carroll said she would not return to active duty and planned to use remaining leave before her departure date.

“I love this city, I’m here to help,” Carroll said. “But I’m ready to do something else.”

Carroll joined the mayor’s office on July 6 of last year, bringing prior experience as a wing commander at Hill Air Force Base in Utah and as director of legislative affairs at U.S. Central Command within the Department of Defense.

Her departure follows earlier staff changes in the administration, including the resignation of Deputy Chief of Staff Pat Wallace, which was announced on April 22.

In a statement, Mayor Jones thanked Carroll for her service and contributions to the office.

“A superb professional, she brought a focused discipline that helped the office quickly make progress on my priority initiatives,” Jones said. “I wish Dr. Carroll only the very best in her next steps.”

Carroll described her tenure as “a very busy 10 months” and said she believed the current team remained stable despite recent departures.

“Love San Antonio, I’m not going anywhere,” she said. “But it’s time for me to step off and do something else.”

The mayor’s communications director, Fuentes, has been named acting chief of staff.
