MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday urged Filipinos to honor the country’s heroes not only through remembrance but also through acts of courage, service and patriotism.
In his National Heroes’ Day message, Marcos called on Filipinos to fulfill their “solemn duty” to carry forward the nation for which previous generations fought and sacrificed.
“Our forebears won our freedom, defended our dignity, and laid the foundations of the Republic we cherish,” Marcos said.
He urged citizens to honor the nation’s heroes by following their example and contributing to the country.
“We honor them best by embodying their courage, keeping the flame of patriotism alive and becoming the citizens our country needs,” he said.
Marcos said the spirit of heroism remains evident among Filipinos who serve others and work for causes greater than themselves.
He cited soldiers and first responders who risk their lives to protect communities.
The president also recognized teachers, health workers, farmers, fisherfolk and overseas Filipino workers for their contributions to families and communities.
He also cited Filipinos who help their neighbors, protect vulnerable people and work honestly for the common good.
Marcos urged Filipinos to remain worthy of the freedom secured through the sacrifices of the country’s heroes and to help build a nation that future generations can inherit with pride.
