MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will identify priority sectors to receive funds reallocated from the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) proposed 2026 budget cuts, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said on Monday.
The reallocation follows scrutiny of the DPWH budget, particularly its flood mitigation program. Allegations of fund misuse prompted a review of the program’s allocation and performance.
Dizon said President Marcos will prioritize sectors such as education, agriculture, and healthcare for the redirected funds. The final recommendations will be submitted to Congress for approval.
The government is reviewing the potential impact of the budget adjustments on ongoing DPWH projects. The administration emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability in the realignment process.
The DPWH flood control program has been under review since lawmakers raised concerns over alleged inefficiencies and irregularities. The budget cuts are part of a broader effort to redirect public funds to sectors identified as essential under the Marcos administration’s priorities.
