President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called for the creation of a Philippine-India Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) on August 5, 2025, during a meeting in New Delhi.
He directed the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to lead the Philippine side in initiating the agreement.
The announcement was made during a CEO Roundtable Meeting with Indian business leaders.
Marcos stated that the PTA would serve as a platform to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.
He proposed the formation of a joint working group on trade and investment between the DTI and Indian counterparts.
Marcos referred to his state visit to India as highly productive.
