MANILA, Philippines — First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos shared a photo with television personality Kris Aquino and her sons, Josh and Bimby, on Sunday, highlighting the cordial relationship between the Marcos and Aquino families despite their long political rivalry.
Araneta-Marcos posted the photo on her official Facebook and Instagram accounts and thanked Aquino and her sons for giving her advance birthday cakes.
“Thank you Kris, Josh & Bimby for the lovely advanced birthday cakes!” Araneta-Marcos wrote. “Such a thoughtful surprise that truly warmed my heart. Feeling very blessed.”
Araneta-Marcos will turn 67 on Aug. 21.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has previously said the Marcoses and Aquinos have maintained a good relationship outside politics despite their families’ political rivalry dating back to the 1970s.
Marcos said his wife considers Josh and Bimby her nephews.
Araneta-Marcos is related to the Cojuangco-Aquino family through marriage. Her aunt, Rosario “Sari” Cacho, married Pedro “Don Pepe” Cojuangco, the elder brother of former President Corazon Aquino, Kris Aquino’s mother.
Corazon Aquino and her husband, former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., became prominent figures in the opposition to the Marcos family during the dictatorship of Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.
The People Power Revolution in 1986 ended Marcos Sr.’s two-decade rule and installed Corazon Aquino as president.
