MANILA, Philippines – The World Boxing Council (WBC) has ranked Manny Pacquiao as the number one contender in its welterweight division following his successful comeback fight.

The latest rankings, released by the WBC, show Pacquiao’s rise from the fifth position after his match against current champion Mario Barrios on July 20, 2023.

Pacquiao, 46, returned to professional boxing after a period of retirement. His performance in the ring against Barrios demonstrated the skill and endurance that have defined his decades-long career. The victory marked a major milestone in his return to the sport.

The WBC’s updated rankings reflect Pacquiao’s potential as a top challenger in the welterweight division. His new position has drawn attention from boxing analysts and fans, with discussions emerging about possible title fights and future opponents.

Pacquiao’s rise in the rankings also influences the landscape of the division, signaling potential shifts in upcoming matchups. As the number one contender, he is now in position to challenge for the welterweight title.

The WBC’s announcement has reignited interest in Pacquiao’s career, with observers noting the significance of his continued presence in professional boxing. His latest achievement highlights both his past success and current capabilities in the sport.
