Manny Pacquiao is targeting WBA welterweight champion Rolly Romero for his next bout, according to his adviser Sean Gibbons.

Gibbons told worldboxingnews.com that Pacquiao, who turns 47 in December, is focused only on “meaningful fights” at this stage of his career, and Romero fits the criteria after being elevated to full champion.

“No Barrios at this time. Manny is looking at Rolly Romero for the WBA title. Manny wants meaningful fights at 46 to make history,” Gibbons said.

While nothing is official yet, Romero appears to be ahead of other potential opponents, including WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, who has committed to an exhibition against Jake Paul in November. Romero, 29, also has the option of a rematch with Ryan Garcia, whom he defeated by unanimous decision last May, but a fight with Pacquiao could deliver him the biggest payday of his career.

Pacquiao last fought in June against WBC titlist Mario Barrios, battling the younger champion to a majority draw in his bid to win another world title at age 46. Despite the outcome, many observers felt Pacquiao deserved the decision. He remains ranked No. 1 by the WBC.
