LONDON — Linda Noskova captured her first Grand Slam title after defeating fellow Czech Karolina Muchova, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3, in the Wimbledon women’s singles final on Saturday.
The 21-year-old became the third Czech woman to win Wimbledon in the past four years, following Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024. She also extended the tournament’s streak of first-time women’s champions to nine consecutive editions.
Noskova appeared poised to finish the match in straight sets but squandered five match points in the second set before Muchova rallied to force a decider.
She regained control in the third set and converted her sixth match point with an unreturnable serve to seal the victory.
“I don’t know how to hold this,” Noskova said during the trophy presentation. “It feels incredible. All these matches have been so physically and mentally tough.”
An emotional Noskova dedicated the victory to her late mother, who died before the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
“I’d definitely not be standing here without her,” she said.
Muchova, who was seeking her first Grand Slam title after finishing runner-up at the 2023 French Open, congratulated Noskova while expressing hope of returning to another major final.
The victory adds Noskova’s name to the list of Czech Wimbledon champions that includes Petra Kvitova, Jana Novotna and Martina Navratilova.
