Beirut’s international airport, Rafic Hariri International Airport, remains operational despite ongoing Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah strongholds. Middle East Airlines (MEA), Lebanon’s national carrier, stands out as the sole commercial airline maintaining regular flights from the facility. This situation stems from the intensifying conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, a militant group based in Lebanon.

MEA’s persistence in operating under these circumstances highlights its dedication to providing continuous services. The airline’s leadership, including MEA Director-General Mohammad al-Hout, emphasizes that operations are ongoing despite the challenging environment. Some flights have been delayed, yet the airport continues to handle both arrivals and departures.

The Israeli airstrikes, part of a broader military campaign against Hezbollah, have been concentrated in the southern suburbs of Beirut. These attacks aim to weaken the militant group’s infrastructure and capabilities. Despite this, Beirut’s airport remains a vital transportation hub for the country and the region.

Security at the airport has been a primary concern. Lebanese authorities have implemented stringent measures to ensure the safety of passengers and staff. These include increased surveillance and patrols around the airport’s perimeter. The airport’s management works closely with security forces to monitor the situation and respond promptly to any threats that may arise.

Travelers using Beirut’s airport have expressed a mix of anxiety and appreciation. Many value the fact that flights continue, providing a means to travel despite the conflict. The airport serves as a critical link for those looking to leave the country or return home amid the escalating tensions.

The international community has been closely monitoring the situation. The United States, among other nations, has called for restraint and urged Israel to avoid targeting civilian infrastructure, including the airport. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing to de-escalate the conflict and find a peaceful resolution.

Lebanon’s government has been vocal about the importance of keeping the airport open. Officials highlight the facility’s role in maintaining economic stability and providing crucial connectivity for the Lebanese people. The airport’s continued operation is seen as a symbol of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity.
