The Lamar Little League team has earned a coveted spot in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, following their victory at the Southwest Regional in Waco, Texas.
The team, made up of 12-year-old players, defeated the Louisiana team in a 5-2 win to secure their place in the prestigious tournament.
Family, friends, and supporters gathered at an H-E-B parking lot in Sugar Land at 3:15 a.m. to send off the team.
Head Coach Justin Pollard expressed pride in the team’s accomplishment, noting that this milestone was the result of years of hard work and commitment. “This is not something money can buy,” Pollard said. “It’s something you have to earn.”
Left fielder and pitcher Michael Frankie shared his excitement about competing on a national stage. He emphasized the importance of enjoying the moment while staying competitive, eager to make a name for the team.
The Little League World Series, scheduled for August 13–24, draws top teams from around the world and is considered one of the premier events in youth sports.
However, the journey to Pennsylvania comes with financial challenges. Travel expenses—flights, accommodations, and other necessities—are estimated between $12,000 and $14,000 per family.
The community has responded generously, with H-E-B donating $20,000 and Dick’s Sporting Goods contributing $5,000. Additional fundraisers and online donations are also helping families cover the costs.
The team’s achievement marks a historic moment for Lamar Little League. Their victory in Waco capped years of determination and has brought pride to their local community and the entire Southwest Region.
As they prepare to take the field in Williamsport, the players carry with them the support of their families, coaches, and community. With hard work behind them and opportunity ahead, the Lamar Little League team is ready to represent Texas on a global stage.
