HOUSTON, Texas– The Knights of Rizal Texas Area Foundation (KORTAF) recognized exceptional Filipino-American individuals for their professional achievements during its Annual Tribute to Dr. Jose Rizal, held on Saturday, June 28, at the Philippine Community Center, Inc. (PCCI) in Houston.
The Dr. Jose Rizal Excellence Awards 2025 were presented to the following honorees:
- Medicine: Dr. Lady Grace Monroy, MD, FAAP
- Nursing: Jaime Puspos, RN
- Engineering: Engr. Roberto Vicerra
- Entrepreneurship: Emmy Rhodes
- Community Service: Lady Joselina “Jojo” Manlangit
- Arts (Sculpture): Fritz Silorio





These individuals were celebrated for exemplifying the values and ideals of the Philippines’ national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, through leadership, service, and excellence in their respective fields.
Atty. Mel Garraton, Supreme Auditor of the Knights of Rizal, expressed pride in honoring individuals who embody the spirit of Rizal.
“We are honored to present these awards to members of our community who demonstrate excellence in their fields and inspire others by example,” he said.
The event gathered members of the Filipino-American community, civic leaders, and distinguished guests. It featured a keynote address by Vice Consul Tanya Gaurano of the Philippine Consulate General in Houston, who also administered the oath of office to KORTAF’s newly elected officers.
The celebration concluded with a reaffirmed commitment to uphold Dr. Rizal’s legacy through continued recognition of outstanding contributions within the community.
KORTAF announced the continuation of the tradition with next year’s “Rizal Achievers Awards,” reinforcing unity and pride among Filipino-Americans across Texas.
